Brian Wright is a Portland, Oregon-based drummer, session musician, composer, and educator. He is currently a touring and recording member of Pure Bathing Culture, an indie-pop band comprised of former Vetiver members Daniel Hindman and Sarah Vesprille. They have toured extensively across the U.S., Canada, and Europe and have recently completed their newest full-length album with Grammy award-winning producer John Congleton, which was released in October 2015.
Brian has been playing drums since he was nine years old. Since graduating from California Institute of the Arts with an MFA in Jazz Studies in 2004, he has been a sought-after sideman in an eclectic mix of musical settings. He has worked with West Coast musicians and bands such as Tomo Nakayama, Cory Gray, Gold Leaves, Kacey Johansing, Eric Johnson (Fruit Bats), Portland Cello Project, film/television composer John Askew, House of Wolves, producer/engineer Brandon Eggleston, and Widower, to name only a few.
Brian has recording credits on dozens of albums as well as various film and TV scores including “Calvin Marshall,” “The Ultimate Ride” series, “Real World,” and others.
Brian earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Washington State University, where he found excellent performance opportunities in the Northwest jazz community. At CalArts he studied closely with drummer Joe LaBarbera, percussionist John Bergamo, guitarist Larry Koonse, pianist David Roitstein, trumpeter/composer Wadada Leo Smith, and bassists Charlie Haden and Darek Oles.
In addition to a private teaching studio, Brian has taught at the Northwest Academy in Portland, Oregon.
